The square is characterized by two distinguished monuments: the Cappasanta- Grignani House and the Monastery. The former building completed in the XIV century is now the property of the Region of Sicily.
The Carmine Monastery, whose first group dates back to the XII century, began as a residence of the carmelite monks who arrived and established themselves in the city. In time, the Monastery grew larger, occupying near buildings, and blending diverse architectural styles in a unique manner. Today, the compound is the site of the Town Painting Exhibition.
